Evelyn Slaughter 1959 – 2026 TX EVELYN MAY SLAUGHTER Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend Evelyn May Slaughter was many things — strong, spirited, complicated, loving, and unforgettable. She was born into a world that would shape her, but she shaped it right back. At a young age, she married her husband, a military man, and stepped into the life of a military spouse. That meant long stretches alone, constant relocations, learning new bases, new schools, new communities — and holding everything together while the world shifted around her. She made sure her children were cared for. She handled the logistics. She packed the boxes. She unpacked them. She built homes wherever the military sent them. Along the way, she worked at a movie theater and held other jobs to help support the family. She did what needed to be done. Evelyn was a mother to three children:James Junior, Christopher, and Jennifer. She loved in the ways she knew how. She showed up in laughter, in chaos, in strength, and sometimes in storms. She often described herself as a tornado — stirring everything up and then restoring it in her own way. That image stayed with her, especially because of her love for The Wizard of Oz. She adored The Wizard of Oz. The story, the symbolism, the ruby red shoes — it meant something to her. She also cherished the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland, a place she visited with her father and her brother, Gerald Armstrong. Those memories stayed bright in her heart. Evelyn is survived by her husband, her three children James jr, Christopher,Jennifer, and her brother Gerald Armstrong, and her grandchildren: James, Slade Slaughter, Marilyn Day, and Trent Day. Her family carries pieces of her fire, her humor, her resilience forward. She was not perfect. She was human. She was layered. She was a woman who lived, who loved, who struggled, who laughed, and who left an imprint that cannot be erased. Her life was real. And she mattered.
