David Earnhardt, Jr. 1970 – 2024 Rockwell, NC David Howard "Dave-I" Earnhardt Jr., passed away at his home on Friday, October 25th at the age of 54, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born January 9, 1970 in Salisbury, NC to David Howard Earnhardt, Sr. and Teresa McClenney Earnhardt and was a 1988 graduate of East Rowan High School. David was the epitome of what it means to be a public servant, always placing others needs before his own. Dave-I was a dedicated man that gave countless hours of his time to serve and protect others throughout the community. He was a blessing to those who he came in contact with and you could always count on Dave-I to be there. As a teenager, he was a junior firefighter with Rockwell Rural Volunteer Fire Department. He began his law enforcement career in 1990 as a volunteer with Rockwell Police Department and the Rowan County Sheriff's office. He spent many years serving the towns of China Grove, Landis and the Granite Quarry & Faith communities. David was also a lifetime member of the Rowan County Rescue Squad and a telecommunicator with Rowan County 911. Dave-I always enjoyed going to A&L Mini Mart in Faith, loved Nascar, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. David was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousin, Chad Earnhardt, niece, Becca Newton and best friend, Bella. Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, David and Teresa; son, Dustin; two sisters, Tammy Yon and husband Nathan, Cynthia Newton and husband Robbie; nieces and nephews, Robbie (Ben), Brandon (Madison), Felicia (Westin), Connor, Wyatt, Asher, Matthew and Hudson, his special dog, Wyatt and an extensive family of brothers and sisters from emergency services. The family will greet friends and relatives on Monday, October 28, 2024, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in First Baptist Church of Rockwell, with Pastor Joey Spry and Pastor Benny Vickrey, officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blueline Brotherhood, 12045 Old Concord Road, Rockwell, NC 28138.
