DC Clure 1926 – 2088 Phoenix, AZ Per Gladys Clure (in 1998) Gladys was in her first marriage to Jack Larken Gorman , & had 4 kids. Jack Gorman was in poor health. Mr. & Mrs Gorman (Jack's parents) wanted Gladys to give up the kids and take care of Jack. Gladys did not want to do this. Instead she put Jack in a hospital and filed for divorce. At the time the divorce was filed, little George was about 6 months old (mid 1948). While she was married to Jack, she had met DC, thru her sister Oralee. Oralee was married to DC's brother Henry Clure. DC would have nothing to do with Gladys since she was married. After Gladys's divorce to Jack, DC started dating her. They married Dec. 19, 1956. They dated for several years before marriage. DC went on disability income in the early 1980s' when his lung disease would no longer allow him to work. In DC's second marriage he gained 4 kids, there were 2 boys and 2 girls. He didn't have any kids till now. He loved kids. DC was very quiet and did not show much emotion. Other than a laugh when something was funny. He made the best home made Banana Pudding and Fried Chicken. DC did a lot of the cooking at home. He liked camping, fishing and hunting. At one time he owned a boat and we went to the lake a lot. Yet neither Gladys or DC could swim. (SDB) DC was a friendly person, always kind and helpful. DC had about an 3rd grade education, quitting school to help at the family home, like most families did in the early 1920's. Even with only 3rd grade education, he could use paper and pencil to figure out square footage of space and figure out how much tile was needed for the job and what to charge the customer. I can remember when he had all his teeth pulled and the false teeth put in. I drove him to his dentist appointment and back home. On the way home he was laughing at himself because he whistled while he talked. It was so funny, he was so drunk from the medicines. (SDB) DC had a first marriage, name and dates of first marriage not known. Music- DC played the guitar as a young man. I was about age 7 when I last remember dad playing the guitar. Per daughter Shirley. Flying airplanes- There was a cousin to DC that was a pilot of a small aircraft . Gladys (wife) told of DC in the airplane with his "cousin" and they would fly low over the home of Gladys while they were dating. Gladys got very mad one time, because she had a bad headache that day. Per daughter Shirley. I believe this person was Andy Plott. Lunch at work- The summer's in Phoenix, Arizona were very hot. DC was employed as a tile settler's helper and worked in a non-air conditioned environment. Because it was so hot, he would go to work very early in the day. He would leave the house as early as 3 or 4:00 am so he could be home before the heat was unbearable. For lunch he would pack a sandwich and chips and a snack. Most of the time he would take a "Hostess Snowball" cake for desert. I can remember a lot of days he would come home with his black metal lunch box and I would look inside and the "Snowball" would still be there. He would always let me have it. He knew what I was looking for! Per daughter Shirley. Boating- In the early 1970's DC brought a boat. The boat was light blue in color, had about 6 seats, an out broad motor and was as long as a vehicle. We spent many weekends at a near by lake called Lake Plesant near Phoenix, AZ. The very first time we took the boat to the lake, we had no idea on how to get it in the water. We pulled up to the loading dock and just looked around. Soon, 2 teenage boys came up and offered to help. After the boat was in the water, DC gave the boys a ride in the boat as a thank you. The boat was the source of spending many family weekends together. DC and the boys (Don & Joe) spent time on the boat fishing or water skiing. Sometimes we would invite friends for the day. I believe the boat was sold in the late 1970's. Per daughter Shirley. DC never told us much about his parents. He said DC didn't stand for any other name. We were never told where he was born other than the State of Georgia. He grew up in the Young Harris area. The family moved around often. According to 1930 US census report his name was Daniel C Clure.
