Joey Tufaro 1966 – 2024 New Orleans, Louisiana Joey Tufaro was an accomplished American producer best known for his work on Kidnap (2017) and Maggie (2015). He co-founded Gold Star Films with the goal of enhancing film production in Louisiana, where he previously resided in New Orleans while actively pursuing several film projects. A proud native of New Orleans, born on July 7, 1966, Joey enjoyed a successful career that spanned over 20 years as a real estate developer before shifting his focus to the film industry. His journey began after a brief period spent owning minority interests in several car dealerships. Fueled by a desire to understand how Hollywood finances independent films, Joey leveraged his financial expertise, college degrees, and business acumen to thrive in the film sector, especially as Louisiana introduced State Film Tax Credits. He graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School in 1984 and continued his education at LSU before earning a degree in business and finance from Loyola University of New Orleans. In addition to his professional achievements, Joey was a devoted family man. He cherished spending time with his wife, Megan Rutherford Tufaro, whom he was married to for six wonderful years, and his four children, Kaylee, Kirsten, Liam, and Greyson. Joey’s love for his family was evident in the way he engaged in their lives and shared memorable experiences, from movie nights at home to bike rides around the city. An avid sports enthusiast, Joey enjoyed playing basketball—having participated in various teams, and competing in numerous golf tournaments. His active lifestyle and unwavering dedication to his loved ones will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Joey is survived by his loving wife, Megan; his daughters, Kaylee and Kirsten; his sons, Liam and Greyson; his mother, Stephanie Tufaro; his sister, Julie Tufaro; and his niece, Mia Huffstutler. His legacy of love for his family and passion for his work will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of his life.
