John Butters 1960 – 2025 John Burford Butters, age 65, passed away on July 8th, 2025 in North Ogden, UT. John was born on February 17th, 1960 in Dallas, TX to John Thomas & Mary Pattie Butters. In 1974, his family moved to Weslaco, TX and he graduated from Harlingen High School in 1979 where he was part of the swimming team. He went on to Texas A&M University as a first generation Aggie, earning a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in 1983. John then went on to work at Aloe Laboratories in Harlingen, TX and later Monterey Mushrooms in Madisonville TX until 1991. John then aspired to become a registered nurse and graduated from University of Pan American with his nursing degree. He served as a home health nurse for the majority of professional career in the Rio Grande Valley. John was known for taking the time to interact with his patients and making them feel valued and cared for. Outside of work, John enjoyed almost anything that involved the outdoors including gardening, hunting, fishing, skiing, camping, hiking, barbecuing, etc. He was also an avid water skier and SCUBA diver. John will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his intelligence, and his passionate love and care for his family. John is survived by his sisters Jessamine Anne Lewis and Mary Louise Butters, his two children, Andrew (Sterling) Butters and Savannah Butters Hennig and their children, Abigail Love Butters, Austin John Butters, Ainsley Rae Butters, and Roux Bee Hennig. He was preceded in death by his parents John Thomas and Mary Pattie Butters. A memorial will be held on October 17, 2025 in Harlingen TX.
