Kaitlyn Gooding-Dunkle 1999 – 2024 hartville, ohio Kaitlyn was born on July 16, 1999, she graduated high school in 2017 from Lake high school in stark county. She got her associate's degree in criminal justice from Akron university. She was a daughter, granddaughter, great granddaughter, niece, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She loved family! She loved her cats Peaches and Tigerlily they were her babies. She would be in her room reading and laying with her babies all the time. She was an avid stich fan. Always had to buy stuff whenever new stitch came out. She loved the hunger games movies and books. She loved the band Imagine dragons and Jonas brothers. In 2017 we got to go on a cruise to Coz'Mel Mexico, coco cay, Bahamas. She was so excited, she also got to swim with the dolphins which she always wanted to do. She loved the beach. which we went to Viginia beach, and she loved it. She fought hard to beat the complications she went through from Jan 31, 2022-august 5 2024. she always tried to keep a smile on her face even when she didn't feel good. Little background of what happened. On January 31, 2022, she went into surgery to remove a tumor from her abdomen wall and there were more inside but wasn't sure exactly where. So, a 6-hour surgery turned into 11 hours, they removed her spleen, part of her intestines, part of bowel and part of pancreas. Due to other tumors attached. They were to talk to me before removing anything and they never did. So, she was in ICU and a few days later she had a leak in her bowels, so she had to go in for emergency surgery. It was hard seeing her on the vent for the first time. In middle of February, she was transferred to a rehab facility. Which she didn't get the best care. She still had leaks happening fistulas. she got an infection. Eventually she was transferred to University Hospitals in Cleveland, where we Met Dr Marks and his team that specialize in repairing leaks with a scope down throat, so they didn't have to open her up again. We eventually found out she had Gardners Syndrome, where tumors grow like cancer but wasn't cancerous, But had a 100% chance of colon cancer. Which the previous surgeons thought she could have this but never tested her before doing surgery. With Garnder's you treat before surgery like chemo or radiation. She had so many leaks fistulas, was in hospital most of 2022, and in and out 2023 she would be moved to rehab facilities and then back to hospital, was on the vent a few times. Dr Marks and his team tried everything to close leaks and what not. Eventually she had another regrowth of a tumor and unfortunately burst open she ended up with a very big hole in her abdomen that drained a lot of fluids we had to constantly change the bag as it would leak. They tried Chemo and radiation, but nothing was working. She lost so much weight. She couldn't eat a whole lot but was on IV nutrients. The doctors really have never seen a situation like this. They asked other experts, and no one had seen it before either. In august of 2024 she was having trouble breathing. The tumor was pushing on her diaphragm into her lung and put a hole in it. she got pneumonia and sepsis. The hard part was she thought she was going on the vent to heal her lungs she didn't know about the hole or her organs shutting down. That was the worse day of my life. We couldn't ask for better doctors and nurses at University Hospital they did everything possible, after the first surgeon didn't do what was right. I will always be grateful for the Doctors and Nurses for everything they did for her in Cleveland, especially Dr Marks and his Team. She's greatly missed by her family and friends.
