Kervin Church, Sr. 1965 – 2025 Conyers, Georgia Kervin Scott Church was born in Winter Park, FL, on July 19, 1965, to the late Dorothy Mae and Carey Lamar Church. Kervin attended Edgewater High School where he developed a love of football and playing in the band. Kervin had the gift of music from his mother and father both vocally and ted, he played multiple instruments and continued his love of music as an adult playing his keyboard and recently learning to play the bass guitar. Kervin accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and sang with the youth choir at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where his talent for singing flourished. He later sang as a soloist and blessed the congregation with his powerful and melodious voice. Kervin S. Church, Sr. departed this life on Sunday, May 4, 2025. Kervin, devoted husband and father of four children, passed peacefully in the presence of his wife of 33 years. He was 59 years old. His career began with Seminole County School Board where he worked in Environmental Services for many years until going to work at Sea World. As his family began to grow, he changed career paths and began working for the Rent-to-Own industry where he held multiple positions from collections to deliveries to showroom floor representative, working with new customers. He worked in this industry for well over 10 years until he decided to make a career change. His passion for helping people was demonstrated throughout his working life as he balanced his duties with compassion and kindness towards people. He later realized that he enjoyed the open road and focused on becoming a licensed Semi-truck driver. After completing trucking school, he went on the road his first year with Steven’s Transport until he became a local driver for RAC National Products. During his tenure there, he began to face health challenges that eventually ended his career in truck driving. Despite the challenges, Kervin was truly a warrior, overcoming some health challenges that many would have given up. He trusted God throughout his health battles and fought hard to be there for his family. The union in marriage of Kervin and La Kia took place on December 21, 1991. Kervin and La Kia met at their church in Winter Park, FL when they were very young. Kervin’s father was the Sunday School Superintendent and with Kervin and his brother Merrick in tow, they would pick La Kia up on Sunday mornings to attend Sunday School. Attending Monday Youth meetings together, they became close friends. This friendship would eventually blossom into dating when La Kia turned 16 and he took her on their first date. Their ability to talk about everything flourished and soon they realized they were in love and were married. Kervin & LaKia moved from Florida in July of 1997 and later moved into their home in Conyers, GA in 2002, where they raised their children and grandchildren. From this union, they would have a blended family of one son, Kervin S. Church Jr and three children, Scott T. Church, Brittany L. Church and Gabrielle Church-Mathis (Matthew). Kervin not only loved music, but he loved sports, especially football. Those who knew him know that he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy Fan as well as a University of Florida Gator fan. He took pride in riding around with his Cowboy and Gator flags. We will miss the spiritedteam debates on football game days. Often people speak of a person’s life accomplishments that are often recognized with awards and accolades, but God often uses men like Kervin who are not giant in stature, loud and boisterous, or recognized as a popular figure, but are quiet, kind, humble and honest and they impact and touch people in so many ways as Kervin did. As a family, we watched Kervin quietly and unannounced, giving money and food numerous times to the homeless. He loved his brothers dearly and gave time and advice to them over the years. He devoted his time to being present for his children. He showed up every time to their activities, giving them advice and guiding them through their life challenges. He was an excellent listener and would pray for and with them. His children’s friends would talk with him about different situations because his spirit was gentle and they felt that he cared without judging but just offering his advice and guidance. That easy going spirit was just the balance that his family needed in their home. His love was and remains an example to all he touched to understand what the love of Christ is all about because he demonstrated this on an ongoing basis. He was an awesome and proud caretaker of his first three grandchildren, Caleb, Skylar and Melanie, taking care of them until they were ready to go the nursery. They along with his newest grandchildren, Kaceyon and Angel were his pride and joy and he was looking forward to loving on them and making all kinds of musical noises for them to mimic. In spite of the health challenges over the years, his most important gift was his prayer life. He showed his family by example how the power of prayer and relationship with God were his priority followed by his love of his family. While not recognized by awards, we, his family honor him with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Greatest husband, father, granddaddy, uncle and friend Award of a Lifetime. Kervin is survived by his wife, LaKia, his four children: Kervin S. Church Jr. (Nisha), Scott T. Church, Brittany L. Church and Gabrielle A. Mathis (Matthew), his 5 grandchildren: Caleb Junior, Skylar Church, Melanie Mathis, Kaceyon Marshall and Angel Mathis. He leaves 2 brothers, Merrick Church, Sr. (Dawn) and Brandon L.
