Lyle Carmichael 1944 – 2001 Phillip, SD Lyle Guy Carmichael was born August 21, 1944, in Wall, SD, the son of Guy E. and Esther (Johannesen) Carmichael. He grew up on the family farm/ranch northeast of Quinn. He attended rural grade school prior to graduating from Wall High School in 1962. He served in the National Guard from 1962 until his discharge in 1967. As a young man Lyle worked on road construction throughout S.D. and parts of Wyoming until 1966 when he started farming and ranching with his parents, northeast of Quinn. Lyle was united in marriage to Brenda Hill on November 24, 1972 at the United Methodist Church of Wall.. They made their home on the farm/ranch which they continued to operate until 1986. During this time three daughters were born. From 1986 until 1988, Lyle worked for Dick Kjerstad at the Feedlot east of Quinn. After becoming an insurance agent on June 1, 1988, he owned and operated the Farm Bureau Agency in Wall, and later opened a branch office in Martin which he continued to operate until his death. In 1993 the family moved to their present home in Wall. Lyle loved to spend time with his wife, children and grandson. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting and traveling. Lyle was a member of United Methodist Church in Wall where he held various offices and was presently serving as a member of the Pastor / Parish Relations Committee. He was a charter member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Lyle was raised a Master Mason on April 10, 1969 and served as Master of Cresent Masonic Lodge #210 A.F. & A.M. in 1979 and has been a member in good standing of the NAJA Shrine since June 7, 1980. He was a member of the Eastern Pennington Investment Club since September 1995, served on the Wall Medical Board for the last six years and was a member of the Western South Dakota Buck-a-roos.
