Sondra Sliger 1953 – 2007 Knoxville, Tennessee Sondra came into this world on December 4th, 1953, in Knoxville, TN where she lived throughout her life. She was the first of 5 children born to Earl E. (Sonny) and Margaret K. Smith. Three brothers later, Margaret gave birth to a baby girl who not only became Sondra's youngest sibling and sister, but also her very best friend. As the oldest child and sibling in her family, Sondra took her role seriously, providing guidance and support from an early age. Margaret would often talk about about how Sondra would jump in and help take care of the kids, household chores and everything else. The mother and daughter duo formed a strong and unbreakable bond very early on. So strong, in fact, that Sondra and her own family lived right next door to Sonny and Margaret. Sondra met the man she would marry when she was just a teenager. Ron and his family lived only .5 miles away from her almost their whole lives. They dated for several years before getting married and having two children - a son and daughter. The couple had just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary a few months before Sondra's unexpected passing at age 53. Sondra dedicated over 20 years of her life to caring for others as a nurse at the West Haven Medical Clinic. The patients adored her and the doctors held Sondra in the highest regard. She became long-time girlfriends with several of the other nurses and they would find themselves celebrating holidays and birthdays together for years to come. Later, she continued her passion for helping those in need at the Knoxville Urology Center. Known for her kind-hearted, generous, and protective nature, Sondra was also strong-willed, passionate, authentic, and outspoken. She was a nurturing figure and a voice for others, always ready to stand up for what she believed in. Sondra had a vibrant personality and a variety of interests that kept her busy. She was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors or "on the go". Shopping for others and making gifts were among her favorite ways to show love and care. She was a natural caregiver at heart. An enthusiastic writer, Sondra expressed herself through poems, books, and journaling. She loved road trips and had a special affinity for the mountains and the beach. She was known for her dynamic energy and constant activity. Sondra's life was marked by her indomitable spirit. She lived each day to the fullest, driven by her enthusiasm for life and the simple joy of being present. She was truly an angel on earth. Though Sondra left this world too soon, her legacy of compassion and enthusiasm for life will live on.
