Wayne Darnell 1957 – 2025 Poplar Bluff, Missouri Wayne Edward Darnell, affectionately known as Eddie, was a larger-than-life figure with a heart of gold. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Eddie grew up in Stringtown, where he developed a passion for sports. After graduating from Neelyville High School, he served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base and Whitman Air Force Base. Following his military career, Eddie met and married the love of his life, Denise Renee Howdeshell, with whom he had two beautiful children, Melisa Renee Darnell and William Edward Darnell. He also had nine grandchildren who adored him. Eddie's working life was a testament to his tireless work ethic, with stints as a factory worker, an electrician, delivery driver, and truck driver, taking him to countless destinations across the country. His dedication earned him numerous accolades, including several trophies at the Missouri Truck Driving Rodeo and a 1st place award that took him to nationals in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After retiring from Conway in 2015, Eddie relocated to Texas, where he worked for HEB and Yellow Freight before returning to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, in 2017 to be closer to his parents. He concluded his career at XPO Logistics, formerly known as Conway Freight, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and devotion to his family.
