Let the memory of Dori be with us forever.

How do you honor someone who meant the world to so many? Someone whose presence was known and felt the moment she entered any room, whose heart was always open, and whose life was lived with fierce love, honesty, and joy? That was Dori. Born on March 19, 1956, Dori entered this world and immediately began leaving her mark. A lifelong resident of Point Arena, she was the heart and soul of Old Town. She grew up at the Point Arena Cove—her father ran the wharf and her mother the café—giving her a childhood full of salt air, adventure, and community. Though she didn’t follow a traditional path, Dori mastered the skills that matter most in life: loyalty, kindness, work ethic, and knowing how to have a damn good time. From the time she could walk, Dori loved animals—especially horses. As a child, she collected toy horses until, at just eight years old, she bartered with a potato chip delivery driver to haul a pony from Timber Cove to Point Arena. She paid him with a rusty anchor from outside the café and never looked back. That was Dori—unconventional, determined, and always making things happen her own way. Dori worked hard and played harder. She lived through the vibrant 60s and 70s, laughed her way through the 80s and 90s, and through it all, she raised three children—Ashley, Wendy, and Mikey—whom she loved more than anything in the world. No matter what was happening in her life, they were her top priority. She taught them how to be tough, how to survive, and how to love with all their hearts. Later in life, Dori was blessed with her grandson Carter, who brought a light to her life that everyone could see. She adored him and cherished every moment they shared. She also shared a close bond with her cousin Shelly, who was more like a sister and constant friend. You always knew where you stood with Dori. She was tough as nails, told it like it was, and could cuss like a sailor—but she’d also give you the shirt off her back or her last meal if you needed it. Her door was always open. She helped many throughout her lifetime, whether with food, shelter, or just a listening ear and a cold drink. Her blunt honesty was matched only by her deep generosity. Dori’s life was full of wild stories, laughter, and love. She could trade anchors for ponies, dance barefoot on the beach, and raise a toast like no other. Her spirit was magnetic, her laugh contagious, and her legacy unforgettable. On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Dori passed away unexpectedly and joined her parents and loved ones who went before her. She leaves behind her children, Ashley, Wendy, and Michael; her beloved grandson Carter; her cousin Shelly; her cousin Kenny and countless friends and extended family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. We will carry Dori’s spirit with us always. In her honor, let us live boldly, laugh loudly, help others without hesitation, and always speak the truth.

I’ve struggled to find the right words to even begin expressing how I feel. The truth is, there aren’t enough words to say how much I’m going to miss my mom. My mom, Dori, didn’t have an easy life. But it was her life—and she made the best of it. As a young girl, she lived a very different life than the one she worked so hard to give me and my siblings. And for that, I am forever grainteful. There wasn’t a single day that went by without her telling us how much she loved us. We alway it’s s knew we were loved. I’m going to miss her good morning texts that she sent every day without fail. She would do anything for us, no matter what. She was our biggest cheerleader, our loudest supporter—eventually if we had a wild or crazy idea. Mom grew up right here in Point Arena. She left for a short while, but this place always pulled her back. She mothered so many more than just the 3 of us, She loved this community deeply. And I think many of you know from experience —her door was always open. If someone needed help, she was there. If someone was hungry, she had a meal ready. If someone needed warmth, she had a cozy—often toooo hot 🥵— of a home. if you needed advice, she had plenty of that too. Sometimes her advice was blunt—she might tell you to “pull your head out of your ass” or “get over it”—but honestly, it was exactly what we needed to hear. The last five years were something special. Watching her become “Gam-me” was one of the greatest joys of my life. She loved being a grandma. She and Carter had the most beautiful bond, and my heart breaks knowing she won’t be here to cheer him on through his life. She won’t be here to give me advice—not that I always wanted it (but i sometimes needed it). She used to say how lucky Carter was to have Reace and I as parents—even if she did lovingly accuse us of being helicopter parents. No matter what, she supported us. She taught me so much—how to be strong, how to fight for what matters, how to love hard, how to be a mother, and how to treat people with kindness even when they don’t always return it. But what she didn’t teach me is how to live in this world without her. And now, that’s what I have to learn. One day at a time. I sure love you momma

I want to talk about someone who has been a profound positive influence in my life - my Relationship with Dori was one of teacher, mentor, and most of all a true friend. I met Dori when I first moved here to Point Arena in 2003. Dori wasn't just someone who taught me to love myself and not stay stuck in my past, but rather she taught me how to be a better person. Her unwavering compassionate nature, inspired me to Get out of my Shell, Hold my head up always and strive for what I wanted and don’t take bullcrap from anyone!! The day she got me to get on her horse 🐴 with her was scary and beautiful all at the same time! Dori’s belief in me, even when I doubted myself has helped me to overcome many challenges and grow in ways I never thought possible. I am forever grateful for her guidance and support, and I strive to embody the positive qualities she helped instill in me, and will be held in my heart forever….. Love you Dori ❤️ Marena Hefner

This was one of mom's favorite days, she had both her daughters by her side, horse back on the beach what's better than that? according to Dori NOTHING! I know she held this memory so tight it was a perfect day, little did we know it would be our last ride together. I hope she is riding high with all her friends. 🩵Wendy
