Lived in Viola, AR

Let the memory of Doyle be with us forever.

Doyle Wayne Mitchell, 72, of Viola, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at his home on December 27, 2025. Born on June 8, 1953, in Salem, Arkansas, to Cleve Warren and Walsa Mae (Jackson) Mitchell, Doyle lived a life defined by hard work, quiet strength, and deep devotion to the people and land he loved.

For more than four decades, Doyle built a respected career in road construction. He began as a heavy equipment operator and quickly proved he had a rare understanding of the work and the machinery behind it. Before long, he became Grading Superintendent for West Plains Bridge & Grading, a role he held for many years with pride and dedication. Doyle oversaw projects, maintained equipment, helped bid jobs, and ensured every grading project was completed with skill and precision. His leadership helped shape the company’s success, and his knowledge and work ethic earned the respect of coworkers, inspectors, and engineers alike.

Doyle had a reputation for being direct and confident on the job, but those who truly knew him understood that behind that tough exterior was a loyal friend, mentor, and steady presence. He had a way of leading people that commanded respect while building strong working relationships that lasted for decades.

Even after retiring in 2019, Doyle’s love for dirt work and road building never faded. In the spring of 2024, he returned to help on a couple of nearby projects simply because he enjoyed the work and being part of the crew again. Building roads wasn’t just a job for Doyle—it was part of who he was.

When he wasn’t working, Doyle found peace at home on his farm. He loved being outdoors, clearing land, woodworking, fishing, and riding the Razor with Tabetha and their two dogs Sully & Ginger. Working with his hands and caring for the land brought him a quiet happiness that suited his nature perfectly. Doyle appreciated the simple things in life and built a life rooted in hard work and independence.

Above all else, Doyle loved his family. He was a devoted partner, proud father, grandfather, and brother who valued time with the people he loved most. His steady presence, wisdom, and unwavering support meant the world to those closest to him.

He is survived by his significant other, Tabetha Jennings of Viola, Arkansas; his son, Chad Mitchell of Newport, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Holly Mitchell of Jonesboro, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Lauren Mitchell, Hunter Mitchell, Taylor Mitchell, Kendal Mitchell, and Hadley Mitchell; and his brother, Don Mitchell (Anita) of Viola, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stanley Mitchell, and his parents, Cleve and Betty Mitchell.

Doyle will be remembered as a man who built things that lasted—roads, friendships, and a legacy of hard work and integrity. To those who knew him best, he was more than a coworker or neighbor; he was a mentor, a teacher, and a trusted friend. His knowledge, humor, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed, but the mark he left on the people and places around him will not soon be forgotten.

Doyle’s life was a testament to the value of hard work, loyalty, and caring for the land and people around you. His memory will live on in the roads he helped build and in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
