Audrey Ann Vander Vorste, 58, of Pollock, SD, died October 9, 2010 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Hope Reformed Church, Westfield, ND with the Reverend Lane Keister officiating. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, October 11, 2010 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home, Linton and from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the church, with a prayer service at 7:30pm. Audrey was born on a farm in Emmons County on March 13, 1952, the daughter of Peter E. and Genevieve (Pool) Nieuwsma. As a child she was raised in a Christian home and attended church regularly. She attended Strasburg High School and graduated in 1970. She married Louis D. Vander Vorste at the Hope Reformed Church on July 9, 1971. Following their marriage, they moved to the family farm . She held several outside jobs, not necessarily for the work, but for the friendships she made. Audrey was active in many church activities such as: teaching Sunday School for 22 years, teaching Catechism for many years, attending RCW along with the being a Good News Teacher. Audrey enjoyed playing cards, knitting, cooking, and baking, caramel rolls were her speciality. She also loved to have coffee and visit with friends. Audrey loved music, she played piano and accordion by ear. Audrey cherished her family and loved to spend time with them, especially her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for putting others first. She is survived by her husband, Louis Vander Vorste of Pollock, SD; one daughter and son-in-law: Lorie and Darren Martel of Bismarck, ND; two sons and daughters-in-law: Loren and Andrea Vander Vorste of Pollock, SD and Lyle and Casey Vander Vorste of Pollock, SD; seven grandchildren: Morgan Martel, Alex, Max, and Jack Vander Vorste, Jacob, Tyler and Thomas Vander Vorste; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Jim and Maebel Nieuwsma of Herreid, SD, Donald and Nancy Nieuwsma of Bismarck, ND, Preston and Barb Nieuwsma of Pollock, SD and Elwin and Heidi Nieuwsma of Linton, ND; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Pearl and Albert Luithle of Mott, ND and Kay Selzler of Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Bill Nieuwsma and Peter and Kenneth, both in infancy; one sister, Sandy Nieuwsma and a brother-in-law, Albert Ryckman.
