Let the memory of Clay be with us forever.
A loving son and brother, Clay Wooten, who left this world surrounded by his family on November 4, 2024. Clay, aged 28, of Lexington, KY, was born on May 23, 1996, in Danville to Darrell Wooten and Lauralee Yocom Gastineau.
Clay was not just a brother; he was the epitome of what it means to be a big brother. He shared a remarkable bond with his younger brother, Chase, embodying warmth and support in every interaction. Clay had an innate ability to make those around him feel cherished and valued. From his thoughtful gift-giving that brought smiles to loved ones’ faces to the joyful moments spent with his Memaw, relishing her renowned burritos and broccoli casserole, his love radiated brightly. His compassion for animals and children highlighted the gentle soul he possessed, while the soft melodies of music and the soothing rhythm of rain brought him immense joy. He loved to sing. Just days before his passing, Clay expressed his dream of pursuing a career in music, a testament to his passion and aspirations.
Clay's spirit thrived in celebrations; every birthday and holiday flourished with his enthusiasm and creativity. He had a natural curiosity that drove him into meaningful conversations about philosophy and dreams, seeking to inspire and uplift everyone he encountered. His dreams did not end with his untimely departure; Clay became a hero as an organ donor, saving four lives and fulfilling his aspiration to make a lasting difference in the world. He always admired hero’s and wished to be a hero someday. His wish was fulfilled. In recognition of this noble act, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
A graduate of Scott County High School, Clay initially ventured into electrical work with his father's company before his recent role at Toyota of Georgetown. However, his professional achievements pale compared to the love he shared with family. Clay’s heart was filled with adoration for his brothers, cousins, and especially his maw's cooking, which held a special place in his heart. He loved to visit and would leave with boxes of sweet treats he loved to share with family.
Clay leaves behind his parents, Darrell Wooten (Chasity) of Breeding, KY, and Lauralee Gastineau (Derek) of Stanford; his brothers, Cole Wooten of Lexington and Chase Wooten of Breeding; maternal grandparents, Gary and Veronica Yocom; paternal grandparents, Hamp Wooten and Darlene Wooten; Aunt Leesha Gosser (Eric); uncles Jeremiah Yocom (Laina) and Chad Wooten; and cousins Seth, Aidan, Landon, Judah, Jadah, and Jerah.
A one-day service honored Clay's life on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Redemption Road Church in Danville, KY. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Bro. Gary Yocom. Clay is now laid to rest at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, KY.
Active Pallbearers will include Chase Wooten, Seth Gosser, Aidan Gosser, Landon Gosser, Judah Yocon, and Eric Gosser. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Toys For Tots.
Clay Wooten touched every heart he met, and his memory will forever live on in the lives he impacted and the love he shared.
