Lived in Johnstown, PA

Let the memory of Donald be with us forever.

Donald Glenn Shroyer was born at home to Melvin and Alma (Bowman) Shroyer on the spring of 1930. He was ninth of the eleven children they had and he lived in Jerome, PA. It was during his childhood that Donald Glenn acquired his nickname "Ace" owing to to his love of a good joke and his talent as a good prankster. Ace attended Conemaugh Township High School before he enlisted in the Navy where he served his country for 4 years during the Korean War aboard the USS Mindoro. After being discharged from military service, he secured a position at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Johnstown, PA where he was trained and worked as an electrician until his retirement in 1985. He was also a self employed electrician with his good buddy, Don Dugan, doing business under the trade name, S&D Electric. Ace met the love of his life, Cora Latz, while home on military leave in Windber, PA. After being discharged from the Navy, he and Cora eloped to Winchester, VA where they married on June 22, 1953 before driving to Myrtle Beach, SC for their honeymoon. Ace fathered 3 children with Cora, Jacqueline (1964), Donald, Jr. (1966) and William (1967). He was adored by his children who loved his pleasant disposition and they particularly enjoyed being awoken by their father with jokes and laughter throughout their childhood. This admiration continued with Ace's grandchildren who anxiously awaited the pranks and jokes they learned to expect from their jovial grandfather. Ace's hobbies included deer hunting and golf and he was a long-time member of The Berkley Hills Golf Club where he once won the City Championship. His favorite pastime however, was simply being at his home on Soap Hollow Road where he would sit quietly on his back porch and watch the humming birds fight over the feeders whilst listening to his favorite music genre, the big band era of the 1940s. Music was very important to Ace and he loved to sing. He was a member of the Harmonie Singing Society of Johnstown, PA and he and Cora would often frequent Magro's Bar, or the Holiday Inn just to listen to the music of Jazz In Your Face and Franky Filia. He and Cora also loved to dance to the music of these bands. Grace was bestowed upon him when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior shortly before leaving this world. His loving family looks forward to the day when they will reunite with him in heaven.
