Let the memory of Douglas be with us forever.
Douglas Robert Riddle, 44, born May 5, 1980, at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, passed on March 29, 2025, surrounded by loving family and friends in Camden, North Carolina, a true tribute to how beloved he was, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Doug is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Melanie Riddle, his strength during this long battle; his two daughters, Emmy Riddle, Tricia and Justin Faircloth; his mother Ruth Ann Riddle; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty Jones (Gary), Michelle Anderson (Ryan), Meaghan Riddle, and Missy Riddle, adored nieces and nephews, Bethany, Britney, and Briley Williford, Hailey Riddle, and Braxton Anderson; cousins Jason and BJ Arden. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Riddle, grandparents Bernice Campbell, Chester Coutts, Robert Riddle Jr, Mary Ann and Bud Linger, brother-in-law Billy Williford, and nephew BJ Williford. Doug was Senior Mechanical Engineering Tech with Tridentis, focusing on ship design and engineering firm serving Federal and commercial customers for several years. As a Lead Senior Mechanical Designer at Oceaneering, Doug contributed to many specialized U.S. Navy projects, particularly proud of his work on DDS. Beginning his career at Newport News Shipbuilding, Doug enjoyed traveling worldwide as part of the Carrier Tiger team serving U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers. He particularly loved working on CVN 65 Enterprise and traveling around the world on the CVN 70 Carl Vinson. Doug was very committed and passionate about his work with St. Baldrick's Foundation, raising funds to fight childhood cancer. As a Knight Commander, Doug participated in their annual events for the past 10 years, even during the past two years and his own battle with Colon Cancer. Part of Doug's legacy is for family and friends to continue to support St. Baldrick's. Doug also enjoyed woodworking, bowling, pool tournaments, fishing, being on the ocean, mechanical work, and spending time with family and friends. He was greatly known for being the life of the party and the one with the longest stories. Friends knew to call on Doug when something needed to be built or fixed. Some of his most recent proudest moments were walking his daughter, Tricia, down the aisle and hearing of the impending arrival of his granddaughter. Throughout his cancer fight, Doug was very grateful for the care and bonding time with his daughter, Emmy. Nubs, his adored service companion dog, never left his side while he was home.
