Obituary

Edith Lorraine Grimsley, (Edie), 96, of Lake St. Louis, MO, was ushered into Christ's presence on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, after a brief stay in the hospital. She was a cherished Mom, Grandma, sibling and friend. Her presence will be deeply missed Edie was born in Round Mountain, Alabama; however, life carried her all over and she called many places "home," such as Germany, Texas, and Missouri to name a few. As a military wife with her dedicated career to serving people, she retired from St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, MO, after 20 years. Over the span of her 96 years, she also worked with the handicap and even as a security officer. She spent the last 17 years residing in Mansfield, TX. To share what a remarkable woman Edie was and her love for travel is to tell a story of her as a young pregnant new wife alone, in Trion, GA. She was pregnant with the first of four beloved kids; at 25 days old she whisked that firstborn off to meet her husband, already stationed in Bad Nauheim, Germany. Imagine, a first-time mom, from a tiny town in AL, with a brand-new baby, not knowing one soul, boarding a giant ocean liner to another country, with almost a 14-day journey. And that was just to get to the trains. She knew nothing about the Army life. She was a brave young woman and always let us know we too could be brave! She was the daughter of the late Robert Chester Robertson, and Annie Ruth (Dalton) Robertson of Ft. Payne, AL. Her faith and family were her greatest passions. Her closeness to not only her immediate family, but weekly calls with siblings, friends and extended family were highlights for her. She truly enjoyed sharing life with others and her loving spirit brightened the lives of all who knew or came into contact with her. Along with reading and roller skating, just getting behind the wheel of her car for a drive no matter the distance, all brought joy to her heart and a smile on her face. She is survived by three daughters, Gloria Davis (David) of Greenville, SC, Debra Kohler (Dave) of Crowley, TX, and Tanya Youker (Todd) of Lake St. Louis, MO. Grandchildren: Monica Kohler, Danny Kohler (Debbie), Trey Baughn (Sara), Stephanie Lambert (Stephen), Cameron Baughn (Margaret), Jordan Elliott (Levi) and Colt Archer. Great-grandchildren: Jake Vincent, Reagan Baughn, Caleb Baughn, Jack Baughn and little Lambert. She has three siblings, Rebecca Patrick (Bob) of Cary, NC, Gerald Robertson (Lynn) of Valley Head, AL, and Myra Ellis (Richard) of Valley Head, AL, and several nieces and nephews and many friends. Mrs. Grimsley was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Kathryn Robertson Melville, and one son, Robert Michael Gray. There will be no formal services held as Edie's desire was to share her body with science and chose Science Care for the donation. The family has planned for a celebration of life in her hometown of Ft. Payne, AL, in late October 2026.
