In Loving Memory of James “J.D.” Barnes and Lucille Warner Barnes
James “J.D.” Barnes and Lucille Warner Barnes were lifelong companions, high school sweethearts, and devoted partners who shared an extraordinary journey together. Married on August 6, 1954, in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, their love story spanned nearly 69 beautiful years.
Their early years of marriage were marked by adventure, including a move to Germany while J.D. served in the military. These years overseas were filled with cherished memories, but their hearts led them back to Idaho Falls, where they began their family with the birth of their daughter Cheryl. Together, they were blessed with four children: Cheryl, Jim, Christine, and Melanie.
Lucille was a woman of many talents and an unwavering commitment to her faith. Her musical abilities brought joy to all who knew her, creating lasting memories as the family gathered around her piano. She served her church in numerous capacities, including Relief Society President, Young Women President, Choir Director, Ward Organist, and Ministering Sister. She had a deep love for her family, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on at sports games or other activities.
J.D. shared Lucille’s love for their family and was a man of great character and determination. He built his career in the auto repair industry and owned Barnes Service, where he was known for his hard work and integrity. J.D. had a passion for the outdoors, spending countless hours fly fishing, skiing, and hunting. He was also an avid sports enthusiast and found immense joy in supporting his grandchildren in their endeavors.
Together, J.D. and Lucille were pillars of strength, love, and dedication to their family, community, and faith. They worked tirelessly to create a home filled with love, laughter, and enduring values.
Lucille also worked outside the home, serving as a secretary and benefits administrator for EG&G, where she built lasting relationships with colleagues. Her ability to connect with others and her compassionate nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
J.D. and Lucille’s legacy is carried on by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who continue to honor their memory by embodying the values they lived by. They are survived by their son, Jim (Pam) Barnes of Rigby; daughter, Christine (Garth) Babcock of Cheney, Washington; and daughter, Melanie (Javier) Ames-Gonzales of Idaho Falls. They leave behind 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mabel Warner; her daughter, Cheryl Barnes Prestidge; and her siblings. J.D. was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lucille, his parents, William and Mabel Barnes; his daughter, Cheryl; and his siblings, Lucy, Barbara, Deloy, Keith, and Verdale.
James and Lucille Barnes will forever be remembered as devoted parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and friends who made the world a better place through their love, faith, and hard work. Their presence will be deeply missed but their legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved them.
