Beloved Brother
Let the memory of John be with us forever.
John Henry — a beloved son, brother, father, craftsman, surfer, and friend whose smile and spirit left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
John was truly a Lindy local at heart. Long before adulthood, he earned the nickname “Master of Smiles” during his elementary school years at Saint Camillus in Rockaway, a title that stayed with him because it perfectly captured the warmth and joy he carried throughout his life. In 1960, John and his family made Lindenhurst their home, and from that moment on, he became woven into the fabric of the community.
A proud graduate of Lindenhurst High School’s Class of 1971, John shared unforgettable years marching with the Lindenaires Drum and Bugle Corps alongside his brothers George and Bill. Those memories of music, brotherhood, and hometown pride stayed close to his heart.
John had a deep love for the ocean and freedom of the waves. Whether the weather was perfect or rough, he could often be found surfing at Gilgo Beach with his dear friend Mike DeTemple, happiest when surrounded by salt air, sand, and sea. The beach was more than a pastime for John — it was peace, joy, and home.
After graduation, John built a life rooted in love and family. He remained in Lindenhurst, where he purchased a home on North Clinton Street with his wife Linda and their son Kevin. He worked many trades over the years, but his true artistry came alive through leatherwork. John’s hands created beautiful belts and handcrafted leather pieces that reflected both talent and pride. He co owned Henry’s Crazy Crafts store in West Babylon (Shop Village) where with his Older Brothers He met his wife Linda there and His work found its way into Sundance Leather at Sunrise Mall and Moondance Leather at South Shore Mall, where many admired the craftsmanship he poured into every piece.
But more than any accomplishment, John will be remembered for the love he gave so freely. He was a cherished brother and son whose kindness, humor, and loyalty meant everything to his family. Today, we find comfort in knowing he has reunited in heaven with his parents, George and Irene.
John leaves behind the love of his siblings — George, Bill, Dave, Barbara, and Mike — along with countless friends and loved ones who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
And now, fittingly, John’s ashes have been brought here to rest at his favorite place — close to the waves he loved, the peace he cherished, and the beauty that always made him smile. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his spirit remains in every ocean breeze, every shared laugh, and every memory made with him.
May we always remember John Henry not only for the life he lived, but for the joy, creativity, and love he gave so generously to others.
