Let the memory of Limuel be with us forever.
Cherry Valley lost a one-of-a-kind soul on August 29, 2018, when Odie Fitzgerald passed away at home, surrounded by the love of his three children. He was 76 years old, but his stories, laughter, and big-hearted kindness continued to live on for generations. Born on October 30, 1941, in McCrory, Arkansas, to Johnny and Eithel Fitzgerald, Odie grew up in a big, lively family where hard work and love went hand in hand. He made his living as a carpenter, but his true craft was building a life full of adventure, laughter, and deep devotion to his family. Whether he was hunting, fishing, or just swapping stories on the porch, Odie had a way of making everyone feel at home. Of all the things he accomplished, Odie was most proud of raising his three children. They were his world, and he never missed an opportunity to let them know it. He also adored his grandkids, spoiling them in all the best ways—sometimes with treats, but mostly with time, love, and wisdom passed down through quiet moments and funny stories. Odie never met a stranger. He was the kind of man who would stop to help someone in need, crack a joke to lighten the mood, or offer advice in that gentle, no-nonsense way of his. His faith was a steady guide in his life, and he carried that same unwavering strength into every moment with those he loved. He joined his parents, Johnny and Eithel, along with his brothers, Herschel and Charles, and sisters, Eithel Marvine and Emma, in Heaven. His children carried on his legacy: Tami Fitzgerald of Jonesboro, Terry Fitzgerald (Kim), and Jenny Fitzgerald. He was also survived by his brothers, Jessie, Junior, Orville, and Wayne Fitzgerald, all of Harrisburg; his sisters, Ruby York Camper of Poplar Bluff, MO, Lou Dobbins of Cherry Valley, and Linda Dobbins of Harrisburg; and his grandchildren, Kaylee Fitzgerald and Emily Fitzgerald. Odie’s life was full of love and friendships that spanned decades. His lifelong friend and confidant, Paulette Bass Worley, and dear friend, Brenda Bass, were always by his side, sharing in the ups and downs of life. He also left behind a big extended family and countless friends who missed his warmth, wit, and unwavering kindness. Though his family felt the deep loss of his passing, they found peace in knowing he had been welcomed into his Father’s arms. His life was well-lived, full of love, faith, and unforgettable moments. A celebration of Odie’s life was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Donnell Hill officiating. He was laid to rest at Holly Springs Cemetery near Harrisburg. Pallbearers were Johnny Wayne Fitzgerald, Leon Fitzgerald, Tommy Fitzgerald, Scotty Fitzgerald, Johnathan Webb, and Brian Webb.
