Mary Dominguez

1941 – 2025

Let the memory of Mary be with us forever.

Mary Dominguez, lovingly known as “MaKettle” by her husband Pete, was born on November 11, 1941, in Saguache, Colorado, and was called home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2025. A woman of faith, love, and quiet strength, Mary was the treasured matriarch of her family—always leading with grace, wisdom, and a steadfast heart. Raised by her parents Mable and Felix, Mary grew up on a humble farm alongside her siblings David, Joann, and Virginia. Her early childhood home was filled with warmth, simple joys, and Spanish as the primary language. She shared a deep bond with her siblings and was known for her nurturing spirit—even tying her little brother David’s shoes when he was small. She admired and looked up to her sisters as role models, who helped shape her strong and graceful character. Mary’s love for Christ began early, nurtured by her paternal grandmother who introduced her to a life of faith. That faith remained the guiding force in everything she did, anchored by her favorite passage, Psalm 23. In her teenage years, Mary’s family relocated to California, where she attended Banning High School and later pursued business studies with the encouragement of her Grandpa Specky. It was in California, at the age of 18, that she met the love of her life—Pete Dominguez. He caught her eye while strumming his guitar, and their connection was instant. They dated for six months before marrying and would go on to share a lifetime of love, laughter, and partnership. Sharing the same birthday—even the same year—Mary and Pete were soulmates in every sense of the word. Together, they raised five children—Arlene, Charles, Vincent, Cindy, and Nancy—and were blessed with 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mary poured her heart into her home, creating a warm, welcoming space filled with love, prayer, and the smell of fresh tortillas. She took pride in her family and considered staying married and never divorcing to be one of her proudest personal achievements. In her 60s, Mary found companionship in her beloved dogs, Poke and Chico, who brought her great joy. She also had a love for music—especially the songs of Elvis Presley, whom she enjoyed in her younger years. Later in life, she found comfort and inspiration in the heartfelt lyrics of Alan Jackson and the timeless harmonies of old Southern gospel music, which often filled her home with peace and praise. Mary’s devotion to God, her family, and the values she lived by will never be forgotten. She led by example—praying at every meal, keeping her home filled with order and peace, and instilling deep faith in her children and grandchildren. Her life was rich in tradition: a love she carried from childhood when she helped decorate the Christmas tree with popcorn strings, to later years spent gathering for tamale-making on Christmas Eve and ensuring every child had a gift under the tree—just like her Grandma Pacheca once did. Mary Dominguez’s legacy lives on in the unity and love she nurtured within her family. Her faith in Christ, strength, humility, and unwavering love will forever echo in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Thank you, Mary—MaKettle—for the life you lived, the love you gave, and the faith you shared. We will honor you always.
