Melvin Roy Dykes, born September 28, 1954, in Franklinton, Louisiana, passed from this life on July 31, 2026, at the age of 71. A lifelong resident of Franklinton, LA. Melvin was known as an honorable man whose infectious laugh could brighten any room. He loved his family deeply and held his faith in God close to his heart. A devoted provider, he worked hard throughout his life to care for those he held dear.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, James and Althea Dykes, his beloved wife of 29 years, Patrice Gatlin Dykes, his grandson, Beau Bowman, and Margaret Dykes. He was also preceded by his brothers Johnny Dykes, James Dykes, and Kenneth Dykes, and his sisters Mary Woodward and Rosa Penton.

He is survived by his two daughters, Ruby Elizabeth Dykes of Ohio and Rebecca Gatlin Bowman of Louisiana, as well as his sister Elsie Forbes of Louisiana and one brother Darrell Dykes of Louisiana.

Melvin's family finds comfort in knowing that his laughter, his love, and his enduring devotion to family and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed.
