I was best friends with Payton
Let the memory of Payton be with us forever.
Payton Lee Crossley Watts was someone who left a lasting impression on every life he touched. He was known for his heart of gold, his unforgettable laughter, and the kind of presence that could light up any room. Nearly always wearing a smile, Payton carried a warmth and energy that drew people in and made them feel at home. To many, he was affectionately known as “Crossley,” and to others, especially online, as “P-Diddles”—names that reflected his personality and the different ways people came to know and love him.
From a young age, Payton showed determination and spirit, earning achievements that reflected both his talent and dedication. He won trophies playing baseball in his younger years and carried that same drive into his career accomplishments. As he grew older, his milestones became even more meaningful—celebrating love through his engagement and taking steps toward building a future, including plans of moving into a new home that was all his and his spouses own and even mentions of wanting a family. These were dreams he held close and worked toward with excitement and hope.
He had a deep love for learning, especially when it came to his work. As a commercial plumber, Payton took pride in what he did and was always eager to understand more, improve his skills, and challenge himself. He truly loved his job, and it showed in the dedication and passion he brought to it every day.
Outside of work, Payton lived life fully and freely. He loved being outdoors, whether it was fishing, driving fast, or operating equipment like CAT machines and forklifts—things that brought him excitement and joy. He had a natural sense of adventure and wasn’t afraid to embrace it.
Payton was also known for his playful, lighthearted side. He was a jokester who loved to make people laugh, and his laughter was one that could never be forgotten—even long after hearing it. He had a way of lifting spirits and bringing happiness to even the simplest moments, leaving behind memories that continue to bring smiles even now.
He had a curious mind and a bit of a nerdy side, filled with knowledge about all kinds of random things. Whether it was knowing exact currency conversions or sharing interesting facts, Payton’s intelligence and curiosity made conversations with him unique and memorable.
As he grew older, he found joy in hobbies like building model boats and bulldozers, playing the guitar, and spending time with animals he loved so much. From fish to more exotic pets like guinea pigs and bearded dragons, he cared for them with the same kindness he showed to people.
Though he preferred being outside, Payton also enjoyed his time indoors playing video games. He liked games like Farming Simulator, Forza, and virtual reality games like Gorilla Tag, where his fun-loving personality always came through.
More than anything, Payton was someone who showed up for the people he loved. He stood behind his family and friends without hesitation, always ready to help and support them no matter what. His loyalty and love ran deep, and he gave it freely. He stood beside the person he loved most with that same unwavering support, always present, always committed.
On July 4th, 2018, Payton shared a simple but powerful thought: “life goes on, with or without you.” Those words, though written years ago, now carry a deeper meaning and serve as a quiet reminder of the perspective he held on life.
Payton lived with a kind of love and energy that cannot be replaced. Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made will never fade. He will always be remembered, deeply missed, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Payton was someone who no one can forget. He is still here in so many people lives, in just a phrase they may say everyday now in then, or maybe in their attitude towards life. One way or another, he touched everyone he has been in contact with. And he will forever be deeply missed.
Honor Payton
