Peggy Holliday-Shinkel

1947 – 2024
Lived in Novi, Michigan

Let the memory of Peggy be with us forever.

My mother was not just a parent; she was an adventurer at heart. An avid skier, she glided down slopes with such grace, the joy and freedom that came with every run. I remember our outings where she introduced me to golf. When she would miss a shot, I would hear her famous words: “Oh sugar!”—a phrase that always made me smile and reminded me that it was okay to not be perfect. One of her favorite places was up north, where she found her true happy place. Whether it was on the boat, feeling the sun on her face and the wind in her hair, or simply soaking in the beauty of nature, those moments brought her immense joy. The laughter shared and the memories made there will forever hold a special place in my heart. My mother was also incredibly intelligent. She was the first college graduate in her family, earning not one, but two master’s degrees. Her passion for knowledge was inspiring, and she loved to share it with others. For 18 years, she taught at Madonna University, where she influenced and shaped the lives of countless students. Life with my mom was filled with adventures, laughter, and countless memories. Her beautiful soul was a beacon of light; she had a remarkable ability to connect with people. No matter who you were, she made time to listen, to share a laugh, or simply to be present. When she walked into a room, it would light up, and her smile was contagious. Her kindness knew no bounds. She taught me the importance of empathy and the power of a genuine smile. Her legacy is one of love and compassion, reminding us all to pass on those smiles. As we remember her today, let’s celebrate the joy she brought into our lives, the adventures we shared, and the countless ways she inspired us to be better.
