In Memory of Jeremy Allen Snipes

August 18, 1977 – August 20, 2012

Jeremy Allen Snipes was born August 18th, 1977, and left us on August 20th, 2012, in Toledo, Ohio at 35 years old. Though so much time has passed, our love for him and the ache of missing him have not faded.

Jeremy moved through the world with profound creativity, rare sensitivity, and a watchful, guardian spirit. His mind was brilliant and uncommon. He was always the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to a stranger in need; generous without hesitation.

Jeremy had a passion for learning and discovering new things. He was an avid writer and a devout Christian. He loved to have discussions and teach others about his faith. Among the many milestones of his life, Jeremy marked the year 2000 with immense pride when he became a father to a beautiful baby girl. Through his journey of only 35 years, he touched countless lives with his wisdom, humor, and an unwavering spirit of perseverance. This legacy will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

His fierce devotion to his sister, Jessica, defined their childhood. Like most siblings, they spent their days fighting and getting on each other’s nerves, but they always shared a loyal, loving bond. No matter the distance between them, they remained a survival team. Jessica will forever cherish the sacred memory of bridging the space between their rooms, each of them laying on their bedroom floors as close to the hallway as they could get, just to keep each other company, talking and watching each other fall asleep.

In a world short on guidance, he found his foundation in his grandparents, Robert and Lois, who were a constant, loving presence in his life. His grandfather, Robert, became the only true father figure he ever had, teaching him integrity by example. His grandmother, Lois, wrapped them in kindness and warmth, and together they gave Jeremy and Jessica the gift of normalcy. He held profound respect and love for them both.

That guardian heart extended to the next generation. He shared an incredibly close, special bond with his nephew, Jarred. Though their time together was brief, Jeremy’s imprint is unmistakable in the incredible man Jarred is becoming. The greatest joy and pride of his life was his beautiful daughter, Avery. His deepest wish was for Jarred and Avery to grow up closely together, experiencing the pure, protective magic of having a sibling in their corner; the same magic he and Jessica had.

The depth of his struggle does not diminish the immense, beautiful light of his life. He was a man who loved profoundly, felt things acutely, and carried a quiet, dark wit that could bring laughter into the heaviest spaces.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Avery , who carries forward his bloodline, his features, and his untamed creative spirit; his sister, Jessica, and nephew, Jarred, who will spend the rest of their lives honoring his memory and his truth; by his loving and kind grandmother Lois; and by his mother, Patti. He is also lovingly remembere by his uncle Mike, aunt Mary, and cousins Kendall and Hanna, who loved him dearly despite the distance.

Following his grandfather Robert’s passing in 2019, we take comfort that they are reunited. On this anniversary of Jeremy’s passing, we find solace knowing they rest together in the profound peace they both so richly deserved.
