Joshua Markham

1972 – 2026
Lived in Hampden, MA

Let the memory of Joshua be with us forever.

Josh was a father a friend a lover a musician a poet a farmer and a hippie who hated punctuation

The world lost one of the "good ones" with the passing of Joshua Markham. He could walk into any room and leave with 3 new best friends.

He had this ability to cut through the noise with people and get to the heart of it. To laugh and to bring people out of their shells. He saw the good in people, he embodied kindness and generosity.

He brought us joy and levity, jokes and sarcasm as a way to connect.

And he didn’t hold back. He was transparent. He spoke out and took a stand for what he believed was right. Speaking truth to power even when it was uncomfortable and even when people disagree.

He taught us to be ourselves and be loud, and to take moments to be patient and find the peace. He taught us to write and sing and be courageous, to use our voices.

He believed in sharing what we have and respecting the Earth. He taught us to honor the land we walk on and the people who came before us, to revere the whole buffalo.

He gave everything for his family and he understood the meaning of sacrifice to make sure people are protected, fed, and supported in their dreams.

His legacy is togetherness, working, playing, sharing music and jokes with the people you love.

He taught us to spend time in nature, and to practice seeing things with an open mind.

He taught us to live for the moment, not for some imaginary future. To be grateful in the face of death. To give peace a chance.

He is loved. Life will never be the same without him.

He is survived by his wife, Juanie; his children Maggie  (Murilo), Noah, Rylee (Matthew), and Ze; his parents Donald & Linda; and his siblings Adam (Veronica) and Emily (Jamie).

Josh didn’t care for formalities, but he cared deeply for people. He lived his life with an open hand and an open heart. To honor him, lend a hand to a stranger or sing your favorite song a little louder, he would have liked that.
