Larry C. Jante Jr. was born in 1956 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, the first of three children born to Larry and Helen (Murphy) Jante. He passed away on August 21, 2026, in Loyalton (Lykens), Pennsylvania, at the age of 69. He was, by every measure, a man who moved through life on his own terms.

Growing up in Pottsville left its mark on Larry. As a boy, he and his brother Mark would sneak down the hill to peer through the windows of Yuengling Brewery, watching with wide eyes as workers crafted their beers and loaded heavy barrels onto trucks in the early 1960s. It was the kind of memory that speaks to a curious, adventurous nature, one that never left him. Even as a child, Larry was drawn to watching the world work, to try and understand how things came together.

That curiosity and appetite for experience followed him into adulthood. Over the years, Larry found himself on more than a few spur-of-the-moment trips, heading off to New Orleans, Mexico, Las Vegas, and Florida whenever the mood struck. He welcomed spontaneity, embraced the unfamiliar. But no matter where he wandered, he always came back home to Pennsylvania. It was where he belonged, and he knew it.

At home, Larry found deep contentment in quieter pleasures. He loved his cats with genuine devotion, and they were steady companions throughout much of his life. Fishing offered him time outdoors and the particular kind of peace that only comes from sitting beside water with nowhere else to be. He painted, giving form and color to the way he saw the world, and he spent considerable time communicating with people from all corners of the globe through his computer. That last pursuit suited him well, because Larry was a man with a great deal to say and a genuine interest in hearing about various cultures. He loved being among nature when the opportunity arose, finding in the outdoors the same sense of ease that others struggle their whole lives to locate.

What made Larry especially memorable, though, was the way his mind worked. He approached the world with multifaceted views, turning ideas over from different angles and sharing his perspectives freely with anyone willing to listen. He was not a man who kept his thoughts to himself, and those conversations, whether profound, playful or off the wall, left an impression. He had a few sayings he returned to often, phrases that captured something essential about how he faced whatever life put in front of him. "So Be It." "It Is What It Is." and "Sweet." In three small phrases, a whole philosophy: and words to live by. Those who knew him will hear his voice in those words for a long time to come.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Helen Jante, and by his niece Jennifer Genner, whose loss carried with him.

He is survived by his brother Mark Jante and his sister Michelle Jante, his ex wife Susan who remained friends and step son Chad Johnson. He is also survived by his nieces Danielle Anthony, who is married to Brandon, and Sarah Luther, who is married to Joshua, along with their children Camron, Robert, Jackson, Jennifer, and Kalynn.

A service will be announced at a later time (2027), as his family takes the space they need to grieve and make proper arrangements. He was one of a kind, a man of wandering feet and mind and of strong opinions. Those of life, quiet afternoons fishing and bold detours to places far from home. The world is much quieter without him... RIP Larry!
