Leonard Tabaj

1950 – 2024

Let the memory of Leonard be with us forever.

Leonard Tabaj, age 73, passed away suddenly on January 17, 2024. He was the devoted husband to Kathleen (Kovach), loving father of Dawn (Dominic) Tabaj, and Megan (Jason) Smith, and loving Papa of Owen Smith. He is also survived by his siblings John (Dianna)Tabaj, Daniel (Barb) Tabaj, and Mary Ann (Tim) Smolinski. Preceded in death by his parents Helen and Benedict Tabaj. Loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Leonard was a proud graduate of St. Peter Chanel High School and went on to earn his B.A. in Education at Cleveland State. He then proudly served his county in the United States Army. Leonard then earned his M.A. in Education and dedicated his life to teaching at East High School (33 years). He was an excellent teacher starting a program where students would earn “cash” for the books they read. He would send out letters each year to celebrities and they would send back prizes to be bid on in a live auction. This made the local news and benefited the future of many kids. Leonard then went on to teach Cisco Networking for another 14 years at Cleveland Heights High School. He created and ran so many amazing programs over the years and was loved by his students and colleagues.

Leonard was a proud Father and Papa. He liked watching soccer and collecting soccer cards with his Grandson and doting on his daughters. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, computers, astronomy, kayaking, and taking walks on the beach with his beloved dog Sammy.

Leonard was a kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed. To know him was to love him.
