LeRoy Slaymaker

1943 – 2024

Let the memory of LeRoy be with us forever.

Leroy Dean Slaymaker was born April 6, 1943, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Ray and Violet Zigler Slaymaker. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1961, then went on to major in Horticulture at Iowa State University. Lee joined the U.S. Army and Peace Corps and was stationed in Panama and Korea. He was united in marriage to Suni Pak on August 28, 1971, in Marengo. Lee worked as a park ranger in Central City and taught English and Horticulture at Kirkwood Community College. He purchased Rosa’s Flower Shop in Marengo operating it over 30 years, retiring after that. Lee loved crossword puzzles, watching home improvement and animal shows, Dachshunds, and SpongeBob with his granddaughter Autumn. In his earlier years, Lee enjoyed going dancing with Suni, and later in life he especially enjoyed his nap time.
