Mary (Weir) Lawlyes

1960 – 2024
Lived in Perrysville, Indiana

Let the memory of Mary be with us forever.

Mary Dale Lawlyes passed away with family by her side at her home Monday, October 7, 2024, after 64 years on this Earth. She was born in Danville, Illinois to Dale and Frances (Axtell) Weir on February 26, 1960. On August 28, 1982, Mary and David Lawlyes were married and have spent the years since on their farm in rural Perrysville. Along with her husband, she also leaves behind three children and eight grandchildren; Sarah (Joey) McClanahan, parents of Zayne and Maevyn, William (Melissa) Lawlyes parents of Cooper and Heston, and Robert (Andrea) Lawlyes, parents of Alicia, Lydia, Selena, and Shane, four siblings; Gale (Jon) Overbey, Penny (Ed) Richards, Peggy (Tom) Strubinger, and Mike (Amy) Weir, one brother in law Dan (Chris) Lawlyes, several nieces, nephews, and cousins and special friend Laurie (Fred) Farley. Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

In 1978 Mary graduated from North Vermillion High School. She then graduated in 1994 with her Nursing Degree from Danville Area Community College and later received her EMT Certificate. She worked at North Vermillion School Corporation as a School Nurse, then for Dr. Robert Elghammer in his Danville office before finally retiring from Provena USMC.

Mary was the heart of Lawlyes Farms. She loved to be outside and could often be found mowing and gardening. When forced indoors by the weather or otherwise she would stay busy by cross stitching, completing word searches, and coloring with her grandchildren. Without a doubt, her favorite way to spend her time was with her family, no matter the activity.

Mary’s family would like to thank Lou Ann Lamb her hospice nurse and Franciscan Hospice for their wonderful care of Mary.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 8pm on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home’s DeVerter Chapel, located at 215 N. Division Street, in Cayuga, IN 47928. A funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will take place at the funeral home on Friday October 11, 2024, at 2pm. Pastor Jon Overbey will officiate. Burial to follow at Eugene Cemetery. Please join Mary’s family in sharing photos, videos, and memories on her tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
