Milorad Matejic

1922 – 2024

Let the memory of Milorad be with us forever.

Milorad Matejic, known to friends as Milo, was born on August 7, 1922, in Wiesbaden, Germany and raised in Belgrade, Serbia. He lived there until he met the woman of his dreams, his soulmate, Danica Buttoraz ("Denise") of Vienna, Austria. They had an instant connection that sparked a decades-long love story. They married on April 7, 1960 in Vienna and moved to Biel/Bienne, Switzerland to start their life together. They moved to the United States in 1962, when they discovered they were expecting, in order to pursue the American dream and have their child born in a free country. Milo and Denise had a deep emotional connection that transcended space and time; Milo called Denise his "dusili" (his small soul). They were always a team and they built a wonderful life together, wherever they were. Milo was a devoted father to Sandy. He was her role model, always encouraging her to "Think Big" and to always put family first. He was so happy to welcome his son-in-law, Paul, to the family and was in awe of all that he accomplished. Milo adored his four grandchildren and they adored him. He was so proud of their accomplishments and just loved to spend time with them. Milo cared about family above all else, and he was the catalyst for reuniting the Matejic family across three continents, five countries and four generations. He loved his family very much and they brought him so much joy and pride. Milo was trained as a metallurgical engineer in Belgrade and worked in Serbia, Switzerland and the U.S. However, Milo was an entrepreneur at heart, and in his later years, he spent time pursuing small real estate and other entrepreneurial ventures. Milo was physically fit and active all his life. He was a tennis player until he was 94 and did pushups and walked on the treadmill every day, even at 101. Milo loved people. Everywhere he went, he engaged with people and asked them about their lives. At any party, he was the first to arrive and one of the last to leave. He loved to help people with his sage advice and he had an incredible zest for life. Whenever he was asked how he was doing, Milo would reply "Great!", and he truly meant it. He made the most of every day. There were struggles and hardships, especially in his early years, and he lost his three younger brothers and many friends before him, but he always maintained a positive spirit, an optimistic outlook and a passion for life. He will be missed terribly, but his family will cherish the memories of their time with him. He is now in Heaven having a ball with his brothers and friends.
