Rudy and Geraldine Kovar

Let the memory of Rudy be with us forever.

Rudy was born on June 4 , 1940 to Stanley & Valerie Kovar of Glenboro, MB. and have 2 older sisters (Ella & Mary). Geraldine was born on May 13, 1945 to Jerry and Thelma Jones of Glenboro, MB. and have a younger brother (Tom). Rudy attended Hecla School . Geraldine attended Glenboro school . Both of them were members in their 4-H clubs growing up. In her teen years Geraldine worked at the Rainbow Cafe . Rudy spent his teen years farming alongside his family on their family farm ( SW 22-6-14) in the RM of Argyle. Rudy joked to Geraldine that it was easier to marry a Jones than keeping up with the Jones’s, so on October 23, 1965 they were married . They spent the first 6 years of their marriage living on Geraldine’s home farm ( NW 34–6-14 subdivided west 1 in RM of Argyle). In the fall of 1971, they moved to the Kovar Homestead, when his parents moved to town . During their marriage they had 3 children ( Val, Diane & David) . They chose to work side by side on the family farm - raised around 60 head of beef cattle , 200+ meat chickens and 400 acres of crop land. When not farming they made time for league curling and bonspiels, league softball ( Hecla Hicks) , family vacations with kids and grandkids, and road trips with family & friends. When their grandkids’ ( Cole, Kaitlinn, Cassie & Alyshea ) started getting involved in activities/sports, Rudy and Geraldine took to the road to cheer them on . Rudy & Geraldine gave back to their community by volunteering in several organizations like Glenboro Agricultural society, Co-op board, Palliative Care, Pool Elevator board, Personal Care Home to name a few. In 2014, Geraldine was awarded Glenboro’s Resident of Distinction award . In 2022 , Manitoba Association of Agriculture Societies awarded both Rudy and Geraldine with Honorary Life Memberships for their years of volunteering and dedication with the Glenboro Ag. Society. Rudy and Geraldine celebrated 51 years of marriage before Geraldine passed away in 2017 . Rudy passed away in 2019.
