Let the memory of Stanley be with us forever.

Stanley Rae Welborn was born 6/11/1931 in Garfield, Montana, the 4th of 9 children. In 1933, the family moved to the North side of the Yellowstone River, below Pompey's Pillar, Montana. The family farmed and raised sheep and cattle there until 1960, when his parents, Bill and Cappy Welborn, and the youngest 2 children, Jerry and Lynda moved to Sheridan, MT. Stanley was active in FFA at Huntley Project High School. He fed the cattle with a team of horses, Bird and Daisy. He and his older brothers would tend sheep out in the fields by themselves during the summer months. Stanley graduated from high school in 1949. He joined the US Army in 1950 and served until his discharge in 1953. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He loved going to Holland for his R&R. After he discharged from the service, he attended MSU Bozeman for 2 years. After college, he ranched and raised cattle on the Yellowstone with his brother Dale. In 1962, he married Carole Collins. They stayed on the Yellowstone until 1963, when they took his herd to the Ruby Valley. He and Carole then rented their own place in Shawmut, MT for 2 years. Their oldest daughter, Claudia was born in Dec 1964. In 1965, they moved North to Kodiak, AK to join Stan's older brother Russel. He helped build roads, and other infrastructure on Kodiak as a heavy equipment operator. In 1968, their second daughter, Romna was born. The family moved to Anchorage in 1970 in order for Stan to pursue other employment opportunities. Their son Cohen was born in 1970. Stan was a proud member of the 302 Union in Anchorage for many years. He helped build the infrastructure on the Trans Alaska Pipeline. He loved operating the heavy construction equipment, and was a Class 1 operator. Stan and Carole divorced in 1972, then remarried in 1975. Stan's youngest son, Anthony Ray was born in Kodiak in 1974. Stan retired in 1988, and moved to the Reno, NV area. He spent time dabbling in gold mining, investing and relaxing in the sun after working so many years in the frigid cold of Alaska. He moved to Billings, MT in 1996. His first grandchild, Cody Rae was born in 1996. His second grandchild, Robert William was born in 1999. Stan moved from Billings to Lewistown, MT in 1997, then to Park City, MT in 2004. He was the best grandpa to Cody & Robert, and had many adventures with them, and joined them in their mischief. He loved being a grandpa, and attended all the boy's activities. He saw both Cody & Robert graduate high school and college. Stan lived in Worden, MT for 7 years, then moved to Glenrock, WY with his oldest daughter, Claudia in 2021. He was fairly healthy up until the last month of his life. He even had one last adventure on his own when he flew to Houston, TX to spend time with Romna in Feb and March, 2023. He was always up for a road trip, and even kept driving until a few months before he passed away. Stan died peacefully in his sleep during the night of April 3, 2023. He lived an adventure filled life, and loved giving others his holistic remedies to help what ailed them. Stan had a gentle, generous, giving soul, and was a gentleman through and through.
