In Loving Memory of Barbara Garrett Hurst 07/20/1938-January 2, 2025 With profound love and a heavy heart, we celebrate the incredible life of Barbara Hurst or better known as Meme, a woman of unparalleled strength, resilience, and grace. To know her was to witness the power of perseverance. Time and time again, she faced life’s greatest challenges with a quiet but unshakable determination. Illnesses that might have broken others were met with her faithful resolve and an inner strength that seemed boundless. She was more than resilient—she was unstoppable, a living testament to the power of the human spirit. For those that do not know she overcame Terminal Colon Cancer 25 years ago and many more illnesses. She was a woman of 9 lives and more! Yet her strength was matched only by her love. As a grandmother, she was a safe haven, a guiding light, and the heart of our family. She made every moment special, every memory unforgettable, and every hug feel like home. She didn’t just love—she poured her soul into every act of kindness, creating a life of warmth and joy that will echo through generations. Whether she was picking me up from school because I was sick or showing up for one of my volleyball games, Meme's dedication for her grandchildren could not stop her from being there to show her love and support. It was her greatest joy to see her grandchildren thrive in the lives they lived and love. Meme had a way of making the ordinary extraordinary. Whether it was a simple conversation, a shared meal, or a quiet afternoon spent together (which it never was if you know meme), she turned fleeting moments into treasures. Her laughter filled our hearts, her wisdom guided our steps, and her unwavering love reminded us of what truly matters. Family. Her resilience taught me to never give up. Her love showed me how to be better, kinder, and more compassionate to those around me. Her life was a shining example of how strength and tenderness can coexist so beautifully. Barbara Hurst leaves behind a family forever shaped by her incredible life: My mother and rock, Barbie Teets. Though we will miss meme beyond words, we are comforted by the knowledge that her legacy lives on in the love she gave, the lessons she taught, and the memories she gifted us. Thank you for coming to this celebration of my grandmother's extraordinary life. Our hearts ache in her absence, but her spirit remains with us—our warrior, our guiding star, our beloved Meme. Rest in peace, Meme. You were, and always will be, the strongest woman I will ever know. Roses are RED Violets are BLUE You are now my angel in heaven. And I love you.
Let the memory of Barbara be with us forever.
Barbara Nell Garrett Hurst, born July 20, 1938, in Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, after a brave battle with complications from the flu, compounded by other health challenges. Barbara’s strength and resilience defined her life, as she faced each challenge with courage and grace. Barbara was the beloved daughter of Nelson George Garrett and Mildred Agnes Garrett and sister to her brother, Nelson Jean Garrett. She married William “Bill” Hurst in 1956, and together they built a life that included opening Hurst Automotive in 1971. Though their marriage ended in 1981, Barbara’s spirit of determination continued to shine as she transitioned to a successful career in real estate, working from 1984 until her retirement in 2005. Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Randy Hurst, on July 1, 2022, a loss that left an indelible mark on her heart. She poured her love into her granddaughters, Taylor Teets Richardson (husband Jacob Richardson) and Dana Teets. Her newest and greatest joy was her great-grandson, Theodore Robert Richardson, affectionately known as “Teddy,” who was born on September 5, 2024. Barbara was overjoyed to meet Teddy and considered him a precious blessing in her final months. Barbara is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who will remember her fondly. Barbara graduated from Austin High School and began her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone, where she worked from 1956 to 1971. Throughout her life, she embraced every role with passion, whether as a businesswoman, realtor, mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother. She was known for her vibrant spirit, her ability to “use all nine livesand then some,” and her deep devotion to those she loved. Barbara loved life, her family, and especially her grandchildren. Her spirit and love carried her through countless challenges, and though she fought hard to stay with her family, she was ready to reunite with her son, Randy, in peace. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 12, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Balcones Country Club. The family invites all who knew Barbara to join in remembering her remarkable life. Barbara’s family takes comfort in knowing she is at rest, surrounded by love and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed.

Meme - it meant so much to me that you were able to meet Teddy and spend time with him (more than once). You have always been one of my strongest supporters and I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. I’m so lucky to have had a long 31 years loving you. I’m going to miss you so much.
